Putting Tips - Seven Simple Steps to Better Putting For Duffers
by Wayne Hudler

Putting is not as easy as it looks. It takes both mental and physical skill to become adept at putting. This skill is the Holy Grail of golf. Discover how to easily lower your scores and reduce your handicap through better putting. Get the inside secrets to you need to know to putt your very best.

Every duffer, every player and even every professional would celebrate if they could just putt better. We all recognize the importance of putting to our overall performance on the golf course. It has often been said that putting accounts for about 40% of your total score, therefore we would do well to focus our efforts in that area.

Fortunately putting is the easiest skill to practice. The putting stroke can be practiced just about anywhere.

Dooley likes to practice at home on his carpet. Many of us can work on our putting during the day while at the office. Some can even spend time at the course on the putting green on a regular basis.

Whenever you can it is highly recommended that you find some time to work on your putting skills.

Dooley remembers his first experience on the from his very first round. What a disaster! He had no idea how to do this at all. He went back and forth across the green. No touch. He couldn't read the green correctly. He attempted to hole out multiple times until he made it and left that green thoroughly embarrassed

Dooley has come a long way since then. He actually made two birdie putts just today. He has taken the time to learn the proper putting stroke and to practice until he is both comfortable and confident on the greens.

He recommends you make the time to practice as well and even offers the following tips to help you along your way.

· Practice at home. Create simple games for yourself to maintain your interest. You can purchase practice putting cups to use on your carpet to provide a realistic target.

· Focus on mechanics. Use your practice time to experiment with different grips, stance and posture, putters and other variables to determine which works best for you.

· Develop a routine. Routines help build comfort and confidence. They help to ingrain the correct thought process and address position. Practice using your routine to better simulate actual play.

· Arrive early enough for every round to spend 15 minutes on the putting green as a warm up. You'll gain a feel for your stroke and the speed of the greens.

· Short Putts. Pay particular attention to the shorter putts of 10 feet or less. You'll face far more of these than the longer version.

· Use alignment aide. Use the markings on the ball as an alignment aide. Putting boils down to line and speed. Many balls today have an alignment line provided by the manufacturer. Take advantage of it.

· Make your last putt. Never leave the practice green after missing a putt. Always insist on making your last putt, do it over until it goes in. There is nothing better than the sweet sound of the ball falling to the bottom of the cup to build confidence for the upcoming round.

Most everyone in our weekend group takes a few minutes on the practice green prior to the round. Many of them practice in some form or another during the week as well.

It makes so much sense that even a small amount of practice will help you to hole more putts than otherwise.

You will have a better feel for your putter, the speed of the greens, how well you are stroking the ball and the conditions of the day.

That information will prove invaluable from the first green to the last.

Use these tips to improve your putting and lower your scores. Don't you think it is worth a try?
